Ideally, local TV stations will be able to provide local enhancements to national content. This will require new operating agreements and software systems. ATVEF content delivered via the Internet can be customized per locale upon user request and cookie registration much as the national PBS.org site can be customized to reflect any local station. Automatic methods that are transparent to the user are being explored. ATVEF Transport B - (Broadcast delivery of enhancement triggers and content.) As was demonstrated by PBS, Triveni Digital and six individual stations in April of 2001, it is possible to schedule a "window" in a nationally enhanced program for insertion of a discrete local enhancement. Continuous localization of national enhancements will require further development.
