Many of the enhancement recipes will require new tools and procedures in the traffic departments that manage the media inventory and schedules within TV stations.
See a general impact description below, with links to each recipe for more detail.

APPETIZERS
-
PVR Record Triggers
No Impact - for national triggers. , there is no impact. For local triggers using an automated system, the traffic system would need to convey the air date/time to the automation system for each associated local promo.
VOD
No Impact - unless a station constructs it's own VOD system.
DIGITAL DINNERS
-
DTV Audio
Moderate impact - A program may have several audio tracks, each of which may be mono or one of several multitrack systems. The station automation system may need to be programmed to switch stereo modes for each new program event. This is an extension of the current need that a traffic department track DVS or Spanish for the SAP channel.
DTV EPG
Major Impact - If a station chooses to derive the DTV EPG data from the traffic system, there must be accurate data fields for each channel with start time, length, program name and program descriptions. The format of this data must be presentable in the EPG format.
Digital Cable EPG
Minor Impact - Since cable derives it's EPG from TV listings services, the impact is mainly upon the programming department to insure that accurate schedules are sent to the listing services each month.
DTV PSIP
No Impact.
Widescreen Production
Major Impact - A show that is produced in the widescreen format must also exist in a 4:3 format for analog distribution. Both versions need to be tracked separatey as having a different format. A station running both analog and digital transmitters will need to record, store and switch both versions of the program. The traffic system needs to accomodate this, and must include in it's air log an indication that the program is in widescreen so that the encoder can be programmed by the automation system to send the necessary bit to DTV receivers.
TV DINNERS
-
Walled Garden
Minor Impact - if the walled garden includes a station schedule derived from the traffic system.
ATVEF Transport A
No Impact - since the triggers are carried in the closed caption channel and the content is served upon demand via the Internet.
ATVEF Transport B
Huge Impact - The traffic system will need to track and schedule enhancement content along the associated programs. It may need to included sufficient information in program logs to engage the encoder to vary bit rates when enhancements exist.
PC DINNERS
-
PC Synchronous
Unknown Impact - Today, these enhancements systems are run manually,
Streaming
No Impact - Streaming content exists without a schedule.
DESSERTS
-
Localize ATVEF
Major Impact - Potentially, traffic would need to coordinate content for insertion at the appropriate time.
Transmit Transport B
Huge Impact - Potentially similar to producing Transport B.
TEST KITCHEN
-
DASE
Variable Impact - depending upon transport chosen - similar to ATVEF.
Prototypes
Variable Impact - depending upon concept and technology.
